Coast Kitchen Restaurant at Timber Cove Resort (Sonoma County) (Jenner)

Address: 21780 Hwy#1 Jenner, California 95450

Coast Kitchen Restaurant is a full-service classic Northern California restaurant situated in the iconic Timber Cove Resort in Jenner, California which offers stunning ocean views and a fresh seasonal local menu. The small coastal town of Jenner is located on the Pacific Coast and situated close to the mouth of the Russian River. Jenner is also known as Jenner-by-the-sea. The Coast Kitchen Restaurant is about 2 hours and 30 minutes from San Francisco via US-101 North and CA-1 North ( 97 miles). Coast Kitchen is open 7 days a week for breakfast from 8-11 a.m., lunch from 12-3 p.m., and dinner from 5-9 p.m. Breakfast and lunch don’t require reservations and it’s on a first-come, first-served basis. But reservations are required for dinner to watch the gorgeous sunset.

Our drive to Coast Kitchen Restaurant in Jenner was a very fun, scenic, and winding road. The beautiful panoramic view of the ocean during our travel was well worth the challenging drive. We saw a lot of dairy farms, cows, cheese, and local creamery stores on our way to the restaurant. We arrived at Coast Kitchen around 10 a.m. and easily found a parking space in front of the resort. We loved the amazing coastal view from the front area of the resort along with the pool, foosball, and ping-pong tables situated in front of the resort for the hotel patrons to use. There were a few hiking/walking trails around the property for people to use. We also took pictures of a Timber Cove landmark obelisk called “the Bufano Peace Statue Movement. It’s situated at about 93 feet above the cliffs and is designed by Beniamino Bufano who is a famous San Francisco artist and sculptor.

There were 3 of us at our party which includes 1 kid and 2 adults. We immediately sat on one of the outside tables in the patio area with an unobstructed view of the ocean. It’s hard to find or sit on an outside patio table on a warm sunny day due to guests wanting to enjoy the weather. We were greeted by a friendly server named Amaya that took all our orders. There were only a few customers at the restaurant since they just opened the restaurant at 8 a.m. And our food was delivered to our table within 5-15 minutes. My wife ordered the famous Timber Cove Eggs Benedict with house-cured tasso ham, English muffin, poached eggs, hollandaise, smoked paprika for $17. As for my daughter, she ordered the Eggs Any Style with 2 farm-fresh eggs, country potatoes, applewood smoked bacon or breakfast sausage toast for $14. And lastly, I ordered the delicious Breakfast Sandwich with housemade spicy pork sausage, fried egg, arugula cheddar cheese, paprika aioli for $16. My wife ordered the Bloody Mary with housemade mix while I just had a cranberry drink. Also, all the tables were sanitized and separated to adhere to the Covid-19 safety regulations.

Overall, we enjoyed our fun breakfast experience at Coast Kitchen especially with all the outdoor patio tables overlooking the beautiful ocean. Nothing compares to eating outdoors with your family on a sunny day with good quality food and a stunning ocean view.

Tips: No reservations are needed for breakfast and lunch it’s on a first-come, first-serve basis. But if you want to watch the sunset then reservations are required. Be careful when driving as the roads are very winding and lots of switchbacks. Visit Salt Point State Park which is about 10-15 minutes away from Coast Kitchen Restaurant. During our visit, we saw a few whales feeding or hanging around on the coast which was visible from our table. There were a few areas around the property that has a wooden benches for people to sit, relax, and enjoy the ocean view.

We saw a lot of dairy farms, cows, cheese, and creamery local stores on our way to Tony’s. We arrived at around 11 a.m. and end up parking on the side of the street close to the water and saw a few oyster shell casings on the side of the road. There were a few people already in line ahead of us but we made a reservation online. The friendly hostess greeted us and sat us outside on a table closest to the water. All the tables were separated to adhere to the Covid-19 safety regulations. We even saw a few customers with their dogs having lunch and enjoying the view. The weather was beautiful and sunny but later became windier at around 12:30 p.m.

There were 5 of us at our party which includes 2 kids and 3 adults. We ordered the Pacific raw oysters which are $21 for 6 pieces, grilled bbq and chipotle bourbon grilled oysters for $17, pasta and clams for $27, HIOC clam chowder for $17, HIOC Bloody Mary. Our food was delivered to our table within 5-10 minutes. My wife and sister-in-law loved the raw and grilled oysters while dipping them in the special sauce that they had provided. The grilled bbq and bourbon oysters looked appetizing and delicious. The clam chowder, pasta, and clams were not too thick or creamy but very delicious and fresh ingredients. My daughter enjoyed her grilled cheese and some fries on the side.

Overall, we enjoyed our fun lunch experience at Tony’s Seafood especially with all the outdoor (covered/non-covered) tables overlooking the beautiful Tomales Bay. Nothing compares to eating outdoors with friends and family on a sunny day with good quality food and fresh raw or grilled oysters.

We even stopped by at the famous St. Therese Church and the Potter Schoolhouse from the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock’s horror movie “The Birds”. We arrived at the restaurant around 9 a.m. and parked in front of the restaurant. There were a lot of parking spaces available but can get crowded during weekends or lunchtime. The weather was beautiful and sunny but later became windier in the afternoon.

The restaurant wasn’t too busy since we got there early at 9 am. We were seated inside since the outdoor tables are not available until 11 am. There were 3 of us at our party which includes 1 kid and 2 adults. We ordered fried calamari as appetizer for $8.95, hot crab sandwich for $26.50, 1/2 pound Bodega Bay Burger for $12.95, Filet of Petrale Sole for $26.00. And for dessert we ordered the cheesecake, apple pie with ice cream and lemon meringue. The hot crab sandwich is a grilled open face with jack cheese and tomato grilled while the deluxe burger came with sourdough bread and sautĂ©ed onions. The Filet of Petrale Sole is pan fried with lemon butter. All the foods that we ordered were good and delicious especially the dessert.

Overall, we enjoyed our fun brunch experience at the Tides Wharf and Restaurant especially on a sunny day overlooking the beautiful Bodega Bay. It’s a great quick stop spot with good quality food and a great view on your way to the Sonoma Coast.

Tips: There was ample parking in the morning but it gets busy during lunch and dinner. Bring a sweater or jacket as the weather can change quickly to cold and windy since the restaurant is located on the bay. The outdoor tables are usually busy especially during lunchtime and people are waiting for them to become available. We also ordered some crab sandwich to take home from the Fish Market inside the restaurant. They also have a giftshop available onsite and a small Cafe if there is a long line (wait time) at the restaurant. There were a few covered or shaded outdoor tables available near the Cafe for customers. It’s a great place to eat and watch the sunset.

Swanton Berry Farm (Davenport, Ca)

Address: 25 Swanton Drive Davenport, Ca. 95017

Founded in 1983 by Jim Cochran, Swanton Berry Farm became the first certified organic strawberry farm in California. Rented 4 acres of land, bought an old tractor, planted and cultivated 4 acres of strawberries. Swanton Berry Farm also became the first organic farm to sign a contract with the United Farm Workers, AFL-CIO in 1998. They support and take great care of their fruits, produce, and loyal farmworkers. The organic farm is open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

It took us about an hour drive from Daly City and it’s 56 miles via CA-1 South Cabrillo Highway North. Our drive to the ranch was very scenic and relaxing on Hwy-1 towards Santa Cruz. The Swanton Berry Farm is before Highway 1 Davenport Beach and it’s a good stopover on your way to Santa Cruz, California. It has easy access on and off from the freeway and we parked on a large gravel and dirt parking area. The organic farm ranch also has a porta-potty available for customers located in front of the farmhouse by the parking area. My daughter and wife enjoyed the clean outdoor picnic tables on a grassy area that overlooks the beach across the road.

We were surprised to see a wide variety of organic jams inside the farmhouse such as organic pies, fruit jams, lemonade, merchandise, organic corn, and many more. They also sell drinks such as strawberry lemonade for $5. We bought a slice of blueberry pie for $7, strawberry cheesecake for $7, three jars of their organic jams (strawberry, rhubarb, and Olallieberry for $13 each. There were also fresh strawberries on a basket that sells for $6 each, organic sweet corn 2 for $3, strawberry and tayberry truffles for $3 each, strawberry cheesecake for $7 per slice. The pies were not too sweet but delicious with a good crust that is not too flaky or buttery. There is no seating available inside the farmhouse but has outdoor picnic tables that are ideal for a countryside picnic experience. My daughter loved the fact that the picnic tables were situated near the strawberry field where you pick them yourself. We didn’t get to do the u-pick strawberries experience since it was closed for the season. (off-season). And it’s a self-pay, honor system where you calculate the total costs, place the money inside the cash register, and get your change. We were lucky enough that there was a helpful worker that assisted us with our purchase since there was a long line of customers.

Tips: Try to get there earlier on weekends due to large crowds and wear your masks when going inside the farmhouse. You can also visit the Pie Ranch, Shark Fin Cove, and the small town of Davenport. Pie Ranch also has a variety of freshly baked organic pies that they sell. Don’t forget to stop by at all the beautiful beaches along Highway 1 coast.

We even passed through a few organic farms, (Pie Ranch, Swanton Berry Farm) small coastal towns (Pescadero, Davenport), Pigeon Point lighthouse, and wet marshlands.

We arrived at the Wharf in Santa Cruz at around 12 noon. We stumbled into this hidden gem restaurant with a Hawaiian theme as we were walking along the wharf. When we entered the restaurant, we were impressed with the Hawaiian theme decors, music, and the revolving tiki bar with the view of the water. We were greeted by our friendly hostess named Eyra and were seated at the outdoor covered tables with a view of the ocean. Our friendly, attentive server named Troy recommended a few items on the menu. I ordered the Huli Huli Chicken for $15, which is a marinated chicken thighs that are “turned” over an open flame to lock in the natural juices, and served with steamed rice and our house-original mac salad. My daughter opted for the Pineapple Spam Fried Rice with prawns for $17. My wife ordered the savory Guava Soy Bistro Steak for $16, a flank steak basted with a house-made guava-soy marinade, and grilled to perfection served with rice and your choice of vegetable. Pie Ranch (Pescadero)

Address: 2080 CA-1 Pescadero, Ca. 94060

Established in 2005, a roadside farmstand barn situated on Hwy-1 offers fresh, sustainable, locally farm-grown produce, goods, pies, and preserves. Their mission is to bring health to the food system from seed to table. The profit they generate supports their own non-profit educational farm programs.

It took us about an hour drive from Daly City and it’s 47 miles via CA-1 South Cabrillo Highway. Our drive to the ranch was very scenic and relaxing on Hwy-1 towards Santa Cruz. It has easy access on and off from the freeway and we parked on a large gravel and sandy parking area. The ranch also has a porta-potty available for customers located on the side of the barn near the parking area. My daughter and wife liked the clean outdoor picnic tables and all the pumpkins situated in front of the Pie Ranch entrance.

We were surprised to see a wide variety of selections inside the barn such as the organic pies, organic produce (tomatoes, potatoes, broccoli, eggs, strawberries, etc). They also sell drinks such as kombucha, sourdough bread, t-shirts, and books. We bought small sizes (about 2-3 servings) of pumpkin cutie pie, pear ginger streusel cutie pie, apple streusel cutie pie, cheesy garlic twists, organic cherry tomatoes, strawberry, olallieberry, and jay berry jams. The price for the small size pie is $8 while the whole pie is $25 and they don’t sell per slice. The small pies were not too sweet, nice crust that is not too flaky or buttery. There is no seating available inside but has outdoor tables that are ideal for a countryside picnic experience. My daughter loved the fact that they have pumpkins situated all over the outdoor picnic area due to the upcoming Halloween event/celebration.

Bounty Hunter Restaurant in Napa

Address: 975 1st St Napa, California 94559

The Bounty Hunter Wine Bar & Smokin’ BBQ is established in 1992 and is situated in the heart of Downtown Napa. Casual, brick-walled establishment offering a wide variety of fine wines and great selections of craft brews. A full lunch and dinner menu serving sandwiches, salads, real BBQ, their famous beer can chicken bbq, and barbeque is served ’til 12 am on weekends.

We are looking for a place to celebrate the 4th of July and for our daughter’s early birthday celebration. We were craving for an authentic or good barbeque restaurant with a nice view. It took us about 1 hour and 15 minutes from San Francisco and passed through a couple of wineries in the Napa area. We arrived at the Bounty Hunter Restaurant around 10:45 am and were lucky enough to find parking in front of the Restaurant(free and 2-3 hours max). Both indoor and outdoor seatings are available at the Bounty Hunter Restaurant. There were some cool and nice decorations inside the restaurants such as a horse saddle, articles from newspapers recognizing the restaurant and its history, a big moose head hanging at the wall.

But we decided to eat at their outdoor seating overlooking the Napa River since it was sunny and beautiful day. We were greeted promptly by a friendly server and recommended their two famous signature entrees which are the Bounty Hunter beer can chicken for $34.95 and the B.H. Smokin BBQ Platter for $49.95. We also had toasted baguette with pimiento cheese and their famous cornbread as a side dish/appetizer. We were surprised when our order arrived because it’s more than enough for just the three of us. But the main highlight of our lunch was the savory, unique and delicious Beer Can Chicken which is a cajun spiced whole free-range bird perched on a Tecate beer can. It was big, soft, and lots of juice was coming out while we were carving it. What’s even surprising was the B.H. Smokin BBQ Platter which includes a combination of pulled pork, smoked beef brisket, half rack of St. Loius ribs, and coleslaw on the side.

The St. Loius ribs were so delicious and soft that the meat came off easily from the bones. The B.H. cornbread was warm, soft, moist, and served with melted butter on top. The Best part was eating savory BBQ with a view of Napa River where people are kayaking, Stand up paddle, and walking along the River. And lastly, the server brought out a dessert which is a chocolate cupcake with vanilla ice cream on top and a strawberry swirl for my daughter’s early birthday celebration compliment of the Chef. We were so full that we end up bringing the leftovers home for dinner.

Tips: Come in early before 11 am to find parking in front otherwise you may end up parking on the street or at a public parking(fee) about a block away. You may also rent a kayak, stand up paddle board, ride a Gondola under the bridge by the Napa River.

River’s End Restaurant and Inn

Address: 11048 CA-1 Jenner, Ca. 95450.

Located in Jenner California which is about a 2 hours (84 miles) drive from San Francisco, California. The restaurant and Inn were originally built in 1972 to service the loggers and fishermen. The restaurant is situated and perched on a bluff where the Russian River and the Pacific Ocean meet.

Our experience is only for the River’s End Restaurant and not for the Inn. From Bodega Bay we drove through a series of narrow, curvy winding roads with a beautiful view of the coast. We then passed and crossed through the Russian River Bridge which is about 10 minutes away from the restaurant. After the bridge, we proceeded to the left side of the road going to Jenner Beach as the right side will lead you to the town of Guerneville. Once we arrived at the River’s End Restaurant we noticed that there were only a few parking spaces (about 10-12) available in front of the restaurant. The person that took our order informed us that they don’t serve indoor as of now due to Covid-19 and minor renovations. We then ordered our food thru an “order window” in front and we’re escorted in their back patio deck with a gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean and the Russian River. We ordered fish tacos, chocolate mousse, and a Bloody Mary drink for my wife since we already had lunch in Bodega Bay. Our order came in within a few minutes and the fish tacos were so good and came with 3 medium-sized pieces per order. We ate and enjoyed our food on the outside patio while we watched the gorgeous view of the ocean and the river. They also have a bar and clean public restrooms available inside. We only stayed for about an hour to give other customers a chance to use the patio deck as they were very busy that day.

Overall, the River’s End Restaurant is a very cozy, romantic, and beautiful place with a gorgeous view of where the Pacific Ocean and the Russian River meet. The lunch prices menu were reasonable with average portions. Also, the River’s End is famous for its amazing sunset views during dinner time.

Tips: You can drive for a few minutes to the Goat Rock area and Jenner Beach. You can see the view of the Arch Rock stone from a distance while you visit the Harbor Seal Nursery area in Jenner Beach. But watch out and be careful of the high tides and strong surf. They have public restrooms available on both Jenner Beach & Goat Rock.
